Greetings good citizen. Often the handwriting is on the wall and the message is one of grief. Where have the Guardians of society been during the growing wave of suicide sweeping our species?
Disturbing enough that suicides are up 25% in the past dozen years but to hear suicide hotline workers confess that sometimes the only hope they can offer to a soul so shattered and beaten down is hope itself.
Once again we see that it ain't the fall that kills you, it's that sudden stop.
Sad when the average person hits fuck it but the papers pay heed when a child with everything to live for cashes in their chips, er, 'abruptly'.
People understand 'desperate'; most of us spend our entire lives hoping and praying for a break that never comes. It's not that we give up, we put our aspirations on hold and proceed to make the best of the life we have rather than the one we wish we had and move on.
With that as a given, the part we can't ignore is how the suicide rate is climbing [in an inverse relationship to the shrinkage of opportunity driven by too many competitors] which really sucks for a race of opportunists!
Is this society's fault or is this a human genetic defect?
Nope, it's our 'operating system'. People put in a round room and told to relieve themselves in the corner redefine the term desperate, just as being handed an empty plate and shown a barren table from which to fill it, this is what passes for opportunity at this late stage of the party.
Futility drives the 'ultimate surrender'. Just as many laugh at the healthcare systems faux concern over life threatening habits, sooner or later doesn't change the final destination. Dead is dead.
While many obsess over the 'obesity epidemic' they miss the point that food is one of life's simple indulgences. Can't afford a yacht so I may as well enjoy my meals and snacks...what the hell else am I working for?
And there's obesity in a nutshell, sheer lack of anything better to do (and the final destination remains unchanged.)
Doesn't HAVE TO be that way but the feckless few are too busy depriving us of our share to care that they have left the rest of us with lives not worth living. We KNOW what 'unattainable' is and we also know why it is unattainable!
This came up Mahar's show last night.
Did you watch the show and wonder what you missed or did you catch the split second when it was exposed in front of God an everybody that the real problem is THEY DON'T CARE!
They are raised with the 'I got mine, F-YOU!' mindset.
In a sense we're all committing suicide, some of us are just doing it slower than others.
Left to our imaginations is whether or not the realization that this is as good as it's ever going to get is what drives the semi-successful over the 'F-it' edge?
In this much we can posit that success carries its own 'curse', the curse of 'expectations'...
Funny that hacking down your personal thicket of expectations can be quite liberating indeed but few are clear eyed enough to do it effectively.
Then there is that other 'chimera'...that tantalizing idea that the 'next life' might be easier, more rewarding than this one [but there is no good way to know that and it's less than comforting to think more of the same awaits us [because, realistically, it can't get much worse.]
Or perhaps it's that last thought that leads to the exit door (how much worse could it be?)
Then there are nutjobs like me, attempting to make THIS life more livable. [It ALL comes from within and what we value.]
How disgusted are you that the media tells us Presnint Pussygrabber reflects 'our values'?
Me, I'm laying the uptick in suicides at the conservatives feet because they have destroyed justice and equality in our society.
It's YOUR HEAD, do something with it! [Hint: try using it!]
