Again, most of us are old enough to have seen the shows when they originally aired, bringing home the fact that nothing has 'changed' since the early days of Globalization that were supposed to 'cure' the market saturation that plagued the 70's.
See, capitalism only 'works' when it grows, stability kills capitalist profits..which is to belabor something we've been ignoring for a hundred years, CAPITALISM ISN'T SUSTAINABLE!
Most of you have also seen the ads for the latest 'brain fart' to come out of the capitalist think tanks [and they have a lot of nerve calling themselves that, should be 'dumb tanks' because everything that comes out of them is 'raw' (not thought through to its conclusion.)]
What ads am I referring to? The ones for a 'guaranteed minimum wage'. Like 'single payer' healthcare it only benefits the providers [who would starve to death in the economic desert capitalism has created.]
One of the more 'on the nose' episodes of TZ was one about the rabid capitalist that automated his entire factory only to be replaced by a machine himself.
Well, don't look now good citizen but the 'unspoken' part of that episode, the part where the symbiosis of your employees also being your customers is playing out in real life right here and now as retail is choking to death due to 'too few' paying customers.
Why can't these college educated professionals figure out that the 'purpose of commerce' is to provide society with both a means of income AND the things that make life more 'livable'?
Is it because knee-jerk economists use heuristics to equivocate value?
The 'man behind the curtain' doesn't need to be hung, he needs to be drawn and quartered!
It is our lack of respect for one another that leads us to lie, cheat and steal at every...opportunity.
While the law turns a blind eye...because we live in a 'buyer beware' society.
Turn that one on its ear and watch what happens! The shelves would empty instantly if manufacturers were held liable for the content of what they sold.
But I digress.
The topic is the 'national minimum wage'. Is this an issue only when a democrat holds office or will republican's support 'welfare for retail' too?
The 'objective' of guaranteeing a minimum income is to ensure the rent gets paid and the utility shareowners get their dividend checks.
Keep in mind the 'free money' ISN'T for YOU, it's for your CREDITORS!
Ever wonder why I advocate for the ABOLITION of the stock markets and the REAL ESTATE markets?
Because they are both 'shakedowns' the few use to reward THEMSELVES for doing NOTHING!
Free money sounds like Shangri-La but not for YOU! If all you're given is enough to keep commerce floating and along with it the 'illusion of prosperity' then [because of dilution of purchasing power] you're better off where you are at now.
The 'hole' will get mighty deep, mighty quick and the feckless will keep cooking up schemes to 'make it rain' so they will always have A HUNDRED TIMES more than YOU DO!
Zero irony that the 'baseline' is, ever and always, the cost of feeding a single individual for a single day.
The 'wall' the morons running things are racing towards is the point where we can no longer produce sufficient food to satisfy the appetites of the majority of living humans.
The civil unrest in Venezuela is real and food shortages are driving it! Tick tock, good citizen. Venezuela is an oil rich nation but nations WITH oil aren't the ones benefiting from that 'wealth'.
Just as the IDIOTS running the automotive industry keep churning out V-8 powered TRUCKS instead of fuel efficient econo-boxes [take a short drive down any by-way in the US and what is predominant? SUV's! Even the 'crossovers' get half the mileage a smaller vehicle gets but because we need something to haul groceries in once a week we all buy fuel pigs!]
Um, are we 'lucky' that we live in a 'exploiter' nation?
If so, for how long because that wall is coming up mighty quick...and 'the climate' isn't doing us any favors.
And again I find myself apologizing for straying from the 'MAIN POINT'!
The 'guaranteed minimum income' is better defined as 'welfare' for a badly broken commerce system. In order to 'repair' society we have to shift to a 'sustainable' model and that's one where prices reflect availability and market 'realities' are successfully managed. [The base assumption of capitalism is that resources are INFINITE, an incredibly foolish 'assumption' for a non-space-faring species. [maybe not so incredible considering it's humans were talking about here.]
What does this 'welfare for commerce' system ignore? The need of humans to 'participate' in society by contributing to the greater whole. We've already seen what a nation of 'couch potatoes' looks like and it ain't pretty [nor is it 'sustainable', as we shall see, sooner rather than later.]
Why does ASP guarantee EVERYONE a job? Because there is NO LACK OF THINGS THAT NEED DOING! and we will put an immediate stop to 'baby factories', sterilizing the, er, 'overachievers'.
It will probably come down to licensing. In order to bear children you will first have to be tested for 'suitability'. [Randomness is nice but until we reach the stars we literally can't afford 'randomness'.]
We have already seen what society run by people who put their trust in imaginary beings and can't think their way out of a paper bag looks like so intelligence/mental stability is the first criterion to be satisfied when it comes to a breeding permit. That said, 'garbage in = garbage out' and a lot of the 'lack of intelligence' we currently suffer is 'a learned thing' so the bar would [initially at least] be lowered to simple rationality.
The suicide rate will climb through the ceiling [as it is already doing] if we permit the morons to provide 'welfare' for a predatory commerce system.
Wake up and smell the napalm! National Minimum Income isn't being done FOR you, it is being done TO you! A society where you merely 'exist' is worse than hell. If the ONLY thing you have to look forward to is your next meal (and you have no idea where that next meal is coming from)...welcome to hell.
Real crazy, real quick...civilization is only 9 meals deep [which, at best, is 9 days.] The typical human (given sufficient hydration) can last 30 days without food but those last two weeks are a living nightmare as 'desperation' sinks in and just about everything starts to look edible.
Given those circumstances cannibalism becomes much less, er, 'repulsive'.
Don't succumb to the 'free money' pitch, it's not a 'leg up' it's intended to drown you in our current F-U, Pay me! commerce system that denies you the ability to support yourself or to start a family.
Mis-management writ large and YOU sit still for it.
To even HAVE a society you must first be allowed to PARTICIPATE in it!
Kids today are already asking themselves, why did my parents have me? The world doesn't NEED me so why should I have kids?
