Leadership

Greetings good citizen, persistent in the human psyche is the belief that leaders are both inherently good and compassionate. Sure they have their 'quirks' Like Preznent Pussygrabber 'the stable genius' but those who long for the (imagined) comfort of the ancient ways are more than a few fries shy of a happy meal.

Gotta admit, the process of choosing leaders by lot doesn't have much to recommend it. We're on president 47 and we've only gotten 'lucky' once with FDR [and some opine that was only because history forced his hand.] Twice if you count Washington's refusal of the crown...

That said, ALL of the 'good kings' were only 'good' RELATIVE to their peers. [Even the 'good ones' are remembered by history as being blood thirsty tyrants!] Only their rare displays of compassion added 'good' to their legacy and even then it's debatable...

Not going to debate the merits of each leader as they all have 'fans' [although most of them for reasons that have nothing to do with leadership.]

Today's link takes you to an article on the current supporters of a return to monarchy accompanied by that all too rare inclusion of the opposing opinion by a group that wants to end England's archaic 'Royal Family' who are in fact more than a mere 'hood ornament' on the British ship of State!

If we rewind to the beginning or the 'leadership' puzzle we'd find that the 'thirst for power' was driven by multiple, conflicting desires.

The 'headman' got his pick of mates and the first, choicest cuts of the kill. The 'downside' was your tenure was 'performance based', one 'ah shit' and you were out, not just of a job but the tribe as well.

So it came to pass the leaders learned to 'delegate' and suddenly NOBODY was responsible [except the workmen themselves and they were just doing what they were told.]

So leadership began to enjoy a 'bad reputation' while it screwed up royally with frightening regularity.

Leaders chose so poorly, so often that people got used to the idea of 'inept leaders' and the job suddenly became a plum ripe for the picking, the epitome of the 'screw up, move up' initiative! [Formally dubbed 'the Peter Principal' in the 1970's]

You might want to reflect for a moment here on the 'arc' Preznent Pussygrabber's life has taken...

Now it's time to go screaming off the reservation as we explore alternatives to the current 'not my problem' approach to leadership.

Under A Simple Plan [which has existed some twenty years prior to the dog of a movie by the same name] EVERY CITIZEN is on a path to become THE LEADER of OUR civilization. Once you start your 'career' [this will become a multi-faceted collage of choices, a mixing, if you will, of what needs doing combined with what you like/are interested in doing.]

Since the work week will be cut in half to accommodate the 'surplus' workforce, you will have the time to dedicate to that which 'rounds you out' as a human being, be that parenting, cooking, child rearing, music, composing, writing, hell, even fitness if that's what trips your trigger.

That list is in no way complete, many love to build things and that will be 'indulged' as well.

As you proceed down the path towards 'finding yourself' [sampling along the way the many things this life has to offer] you will work toward becoming a 'master' of your chosen craft. We all start life as apprentices and have to achieve specific 'milestones' as we journey to the fulfillment of our life goals. 'Testing' will be done on an annual basis and once you have 'mastered' your skill you can begin to compete for the next rung on the ladder to become a manager/group leader.

You will be given specific metrics to meet and how you 'measure up' will be used to evaluate your eligibility to advance to the next level. [Two 'prongs' here, good citizen. Past performance is combined with your test results [your problem solving ability/creativity] to evaluate who advances.

You may not win the job but you could still win the pay grade!

It is through this process that we would winnow out the most skilled problem solvers to lead us...how's THAT for a concept?

Or would you rather put your reliance on a 'Royal Family' that neither lives as you live or suffers what you suffer?

[We had that dance once, we called it the 'Dark Ages'.]

The greatest 'revelation' of the 'Enlightenment' was that the monarchs had to go [and it didn't matter what they were replaced with!]

That said, most of the 'replacement strategies' were 'engineered' by the monarchists, therefore the extremely dismal performance...

Either we 'improve' the process or the process enslaves us.

Your choice...until it isn't.

Don't have to explain what that means.

Thanks once again for letting me inside your head,

Gegner
