Greetings good citizen, as the population crisis pushes the homeless to greater extremes we wait patiently for our politicians to provide a solution.
History tells us 'homelessness' isn't a 'new' problem...which is why our politicians feel no burning need to address the problem. Again, historically speaking, homelessness was usually caused by a falling out with the dominant member of a given household. What came afterwards was (and still is for the most part) considered 'just desserts'.
The factor that didn't formerly exist is the commerce systems inability to provide opportunities for all that need them.
Just because commerce can't use you doesn't mean you aren't still homeless. There is NO 'state safety net' to catch the un/underemployed when employers decided it would be 'more profitable' to have fewer workers on the payroll.
Now the homeless are ubiquitous, largely because of the economic 'slim pickins' created by the 'service economy' that has caused them to criss-cross the nation seeking 'a gig they can live on'.
Problem with the gig economy is the paycheck isn't 'steady' or reliable. Some weeks you do good and others, not so much resulting in the inevitable, if you can't live on it, it's YOUR problem!
Ironically, as politicians are hoisted by their necks up the nearest utility pole for their refusal to do ANYTHING about this crisis, their inability to breathe will be their 'just desserts'.
Sadly, the homeless don't have a 'clear target'...as far as they are concerned all of humanity has turned its back on them. We are all equally as guilty of the neglect they suffer at the hands of the feckless.
The situation has grown to the point where most of you know somebody that IS or has been homeless...and somehow this is being considered 'normal' when it's anything but.
[Now would be a good time to ask the devout WHY 'Their GOD' [$] has done NOTHING but set up a soup kitchen and let humanity's abandoned sleep in the pews from sun down til sun up (then to drive them out into the elements come sunrise regardless of conditions.)]
Perhaps we should be wondering why our politicians are let off the hook? It is their fault these people exist in the first place!
Why do we continue to subscribe to an economic system that only benefits a few?
The answer, naturally, is so 'a few' can be rich [thus the rest must suffer.]
One shouldn't be Fifty before they have such an epiphany! In fact kids are having this 'realization even sooner now that members of their family are falling victim to the crisis created by the combination of rabid capitalism and the exploding population.
Still a mystery is why the 'population bomb' vanished right after it reared its formidable head in the Early Seventies?
Malthus raised the alarm two centuries earlier only to be proven wrong by modern farming methods. Today's frankenfood [and the resultant widespread sterility] tell us we are at the end of our proverbial leash [and we hit it as full gallop!]
We have failed to conquer space so we can't 'harvest the sky' to feed our teeming billions.
Worse, since the feckless teach that money is 'real' (and a science, no less!) the abundantly gullible and hopelessly stupid think we will buy our way out of the problems facing humanity.
Stock market keeps going up, right?
Doesn't bode well for our species that wethink BELIEVE money is real and our problems are 'imaginary'...Worse [didn't think that was possible, did ya?] The people running things also believe ignoring 'the situation on the ground' will force the problem to resolve itself.
You expect succor but they expect you to DIE!
This is the, er, 'problem' with everybody not being on the same page [or being viewed as 'expendable' by the thieves that caused this situation in the first place.]
Despite their vehement denials, those with money (coupled with those who sit in judgement) are DIRECTLY responsible for circumstances that have repeatedly resulted in millions of deaths.
Why we mentally reconcile these failures as being the fault of the 'party system' [when both parties are responsible!] but this circles back to the stupid phenomenon...but (and it's a big one) TIME is running out [and we ALL know it.]
If history teaches us anything it is that we SUCK at picking up the pieces after a collapse. We don't have the right skill set to build a society that doesn't prey on itself.
If we can't break the 'slaver mold' we are DOOMED.
