Greetings good citizen, it is the aim of politics to pacify the populace while the self-interested milk and bilk them for everything they are worth.
Difficult to find a more blunt assessment but it is also rare to find a more honest one.
A whole generation has been born/come of voting age that is totally ignorant that things weren't always like this and it is only now as the 'boomers' are headed off-stage that they have suddenly come to realize what a mess they left for their children to clean up.
Worse, we left them with no tools with which to rebuild.
Watching the Libertarian (a Republican that thinks other Republicans are stupid) last night and the discussion turned to 'better Angels'.
Funny how the first guest is always somebody pimping their book and last night's celebrity author was Jon Meacham, pimping his latest book of the same title, something about America's Better Angels. [I have little patience with people that use the term that applies to the entire Western Hemisphere despite it is precisely this laziness that has lead most of us to refer to ourselves as Americans as opposed to what we really are, as unflattering as that is. [Zero irony that they both begin with A...]
Mr. Meacham began his synopsis with a march through presidential history and it's probably why my mind is 'defective' because they were much different people than we are.
Your Great Grandfather could shoe a horse using nothing but his hunting knife and a rock. He could also hunt, kill, dress and cook nature's bounty over an open flame with no middle men involved.
YOU know what pokemon can counteract a Snorelax attack.
You may have gone hunting with your grandpa but if you don't live out in the boondocks the closest you've come to encountering wildlife is a chance encounter with a skunk [despite shitting your britches every time you have to take the trash out at night after the news reports a local coyote sighting.]
If you do eventually kill a deer it will probably be with your car and you will most likely be (at least modestly) 'under the influence'.
Um, should you find yourself in this position and the vehicle isn't totaled, you'll drive away leaving the corpse for 'scavengers'. [You don't know how to skin. dress or rend a deer into it's proper cuts.]
You also know there isn't a pokemon (or a magic card for that matter) that will do the task for you. While video games are increasingly more 'gorey' [this is in lockstep with cinema/CGI] there isn't one that teaches you how to properly skin and dress an animal [or requires this as part of game play...although it won't be long now, will it?]
Still, the point is we are much different people than the ones that broke free from the tyrannical church of the poisoned mind a thousand years ago.
While we have, er, 'abandoned' many unnecessary life skills during the most recent phase of returning to 'civilized life' [weirdly referred to as 'the dream' (of 'self-sufficiency')] I guess you're not supposed to ask how supermarkets fit into the equation of freedom and independence except that it liberates you from the necessity of having to chase your next meal down and killing it with a stick...]
Without a 'purpose', what kind of 'life' are you supposed to build for yourself? You may want to join the feckless on their one-way suicide mission to Mars but we are literally generations away reaching the nearest habitable planet much less conquering it.
Will 'we' survive the 'meantime'?
[Not with the feckless leading us...]
So what do you suppose 'the mission' is?
Thanks once again for letting me inside YOUR mind!
