Greetings good citizen, we have arrived once again at the holiday that marks the end of summer and the beginning of the 'Holiday Season' [which our commerce system has conspired to have ALL religions celebrate their 'special days' at the same time. Roughly coinciding with the pagan feasts of yule, the nebulous midpoint between harvest and planting.]
If YOUR religion doesn't have a celebration planned around this time frame you're doing it wrong!
Back when we were an 'agrarian' society that only 'labored' from Spring to Fall [most of us spent Winter drunk, fighting over who had a better (just about anything).]
Labor day didn't come about until 'labor itself' took a turn for the worse. Life on the farm was unhurried and uncomplicated, life in the shop/factory was drudgery defined. The clock was ALWAYS against you!
Well, turns out a few men can feed many and the 'market' couldn't support a community that did nothing but farm so the farmers sent their sons off to the cities to find 'work' that could 'sustain' them.
Turns out the cities weren't 'wall to wall' employment either. Industry was in its infancy and required a different 'skill set' than what the farm demanded.
If you weren't cut out for the drudgery of factory work the only other option was the military...so the 'surplus population' went into the service of the king...and the king had no clue what to do with this restless mob so he ordered his advisers [who later became generals] to 'do something'.
And did they ever!
Didn't take long before the feckless generals went 'conquering' and now a few hundred untaleneted louts became thousands!
Well, what do you do when you're 'overrun' by people without talent?
Welcome to today.
The puzzle isn't 'unsolvable' but the king and his advisers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed (yes, present tense people!) [Today's leaders send our 'surplus population' to school, talk about 'half-wits'! Education DOES NOT create jobs...the ONLY way to expand the labor markets is to alter the economic system!
If we look at 'profit' as 'benefit to society' then a whole category of previously 'unprofitable' ventures becomes rich to 'mine'.
[Hubbard also noted this human 'fixation' on all things mining but brushed it off as just a symptom of social development, a 'hangover' from our early days and not connecting it to why we were, er, 'created'.]
Sidestep that rabbit hole for now and proceed onward with today's crisis in labor, where if your parents didn't leave you a job, you don't have one...and it's nobody's problem but YOURS.
How long before the 'surplus population' [unhired by the feckless capitalists] murders the rest of us?
YOU ignore the crisis at your own risk!
Your unwilingness to comprehend will be your DOOM.
On that happy note, enjoy your weekend, while you can...
