Greetings good citizen, many people are sacrificing their time and money to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Some do this selflessly while others are working the tax/self- agrandizement angle.
Since money is 'free AND meaningless' why part with yours? Isn't the 'functioning/survival' of society one of government's primary functions? Isn't it why our feckless politicians send our children to war...to 'protect us'?
under the banner of 'preservingtheir, er, OUR way of life?'
Here's an idea (since we have millions of unemployed and a plastic 'island' floating out in the Pacific the size of TEXAS: Why don't we 'harvest' that plastic and turn it into building material? [No time? rebuilding will take YEARS!]
Leaving it in the ocean only serves to endanger an already over hunted eco-system and hey, it's not like the people had anything better to do?
But I digress. I am down on 'charities' because they only exist as tax deductions for the already too wealthy. Ordinarly people are already 'squeezed' enough, between picking up the slack from what millionaire refuse to pay [in the form of outrageous property taxes] to fines inflicted on them by a gang of 'nothin better to do' thugs, (who think it's funny.)
Just because the robber wore a badge and the 'bagman' wore a robe doesn't make theft right. But all money is funny so it's really a victimless crime...but you know it ain't.
YOU [thanks to THEM, NEED that money to survive.] With the average WORKING person only having access to roughly $400 ready cash at any given time [people who don't work meet disaster with despair, they have nothing and no way to fix what breaks...why isn't anybody helping them? Oh, that's right...you THINK the GOVERNMENT is 'helping' them!
Get your head out of your backside! Conservo-whackos [and their sympathizers] believe 'government asssistance' comes from THEM, it's their Tax Dollars being squandered when nothing could be further from the truth!
Conservatives are always sqwacking about 'opportunity costs' in the WRONG context. It's 'theft' if you use public resources to aide the downtrodden but they are the first ones to take up a collection [for tax purposes] when disaster strikes.
How sick is a society that only helps because they get something out of it?
Many don't bother to keep track of what they 'give', especially their time but if these same people would only open their minds to the greater good 'charity' would be 'unnecessary'.
The 'single factor' gives til it hurts [because they don't know when to say 'enough'. Sadly, many of these people hurt themselves when they make a public display out of helping others.
Is that kindness or do we have another term for it?
Like Ownership the charity BS has to GO!
Government, we're doing it wrong!
No taxes [thus would charities disappear] and no banks because society, via government, would care for EVERY individual from the cradle to the grave...but the STUPIDITY/madness has to STOP!
It's been a dozen years and there are still parts of New Orleans that haven't recovered...why do you suppose that is?
If government won't stand up to the 'what's in it for me?' crowd it's time to replace the government or we are well and truly.
