Greetings good citizen: If the 'futurist' is said to have a mission then that mission is to point at the goal post humanity needs to strive for.
Thedeluded, er, I mean 'religious' among us will disagree, saying this is the Church's job but given the current state of our civilization and with religion being key to it's downward spiral it's a hard argument to defend.
[Worse, as the largest segment of the world's population reaches 'old age', no irony should be lost on the fact that it suddenly 'finds religion'...probably because they're closer to the 'check-out', thus they feel a little 'outward devotion' will help ease their way through those non-existent 'Pearly Gates'.]
But that is not the topic of this post so once again I digress.
What do you suppose the 'goal of society' should be, now that we've succeeded in the being fruitful and multiplying part of the original goal?
One of the first things we need to do is STOP 'multiplying' (as best we can. How ironic is it that sweeping religion aside is key to this practical goal because their message is still 'be fruitful and multiply' regardless of the consequences.)
Let's examine the whipsaw of over-population and the resultant viscious competition for now slender resources. Skinny, fat, doesn't matter because the whole edifice is keyed to a 'hand to mouth' existence.
Keep the natives fed and they'll remain 'peaceful'...or as the old truism goes, civilization is 9 meals deep. The bad news is a large number of today's 'participant's have already cut one from their daily intake, dropping that number to six.
Humans are a social animal. While people may drive you nuts, the absence of them is proven to drive you insane. How unfortunate is it that half of modern adults lack the daily interaction necessary to keep them...well, 'sane'?
The 'communications revolution' of the 80's has resulted in a society where being 'out of touch' is unacceptable...[mostly because nobody likes 'waiting' which is what we used to do when we couldn't get what we want NOW!]
Understand: your 'mobile device' doesn't argue with you (although it is 'training you' to conform to it, whether you realize it or not.) People have given up human interaction for the 'authority' of the scratching post we call the internet. If you read it here then it must be true...especially if the site is commercially sponsored and has a slick homepage!
Worse, the Internet allows you to find your own 'truth'.
This 'collapse' of human interaction has already had some disturbing consequences starting with a whole generation that doesn't even know how to interact with one another.
Worse, because they have no 'sounding board' [like-minded individuals to talk to and discuss the memes they are spoonfed by the corporate owned media they are also intellectually unequipped to detect BS!]
Some of you don't think this is dangerous but I shudder to think where such circumstances will lead?
So it is that I place this 'beacon' for those who care to rally around. The 'self-interested' are in the process of re-ordering our society and we cannot afford to let that happen! [We are not animals! regardless of what they think of us.]
Yes, good citizen, the sky IS falling and not only is my hair on fire...so is yours!
But if you don't think so then by all means go back to sleep, but be sure to set the alarm in your phone so you're not late for work [and they come hunting for you like a renegade dog...]
People thirst for justice but since they can't agree on what justice is or who is responsible for denying us the justice we crave it remains impossible to attain.
Never has it been more true...United we Stand, Divided we Fall...into the abyss, where the self-interested will laugh at our collective stupidity...but they won't be laughing long because after we're gone they will turn on each other!
Yeah, I know, how much more grim can it get?
It's not easy to be the guy holding the flashlight in this sewer the self-interested have made for us but without it we have no hope.
And some would say we're already beyond that.
Funny how that turns my often pessimistic posts into optimism!
With that said, thanks for letting me inside your head,
