Greetings good citizen, while most futurists reveled in technology's ability to solve even the most intractable problems there remains one 'frontier' we've been fought to a standstill on and that is the, er, mighty virus.
We find ways to, er, slow the virus's progress but the virus keeps mutating, creating more successful versions of itself.
It's an ever-escalating arms race with the virus never being far behind any new developments.
More, er,'worrisome' is how several diseases we believe we 'eradicated' have returned in mutated, treatment resistant forms!
That said, we are unlikely to get the 'upper-hand' when it come to diseases as the 'cure' is often found in the latest incarnation for that incarnation of the virus.
But I digress...at least somewhat.
The topic is 'extinction' and the context is the likelihood of it happening to our species.
How bizarre the consensus is yes, we are skating closer and closer to an unstoppable pandemic and the fruitloops running our civilization are cutting the safety net intended to preserve/supply the survivors.
What am I saying? One of the 'saving graces' in our unending battle against the germs of the world is there hasn't yet been a 100% efficient killer of the host, meaning there are always survivors.
BUT, today's survivors don't know where things come from or how to 'fend for themselves'...and without that knowledge we could, for the first time, be faced with 'extinction'.
Sure, some 'bush-people' will probably remain ignorant that the larger world has passed on and proceed unhindered until some other man-made catastrophe blind-sides them.
Which is to say that just because it hasn't happened yet that's not insurance that it's not going to happen at all.
But there's no sense worrying about it...when your number's up, your number's up.
Which is also to point out that a life ending asteroid could be on a collision course with Earth this very minute and there isn't a damn thing we could do about it. It is also unlikely we will be prepared to fend off such a strike anytime in the not too distant future and if we could, you KNOW it would be 'weaponized'.
Where do you think the 'Death Star' came from?
The question, as always, is how popular are the things you seldom think about being raised for your consideration?
I have no clue but I'll keep doing it because the exercise itself amuses me,
with that said, thank you for letting me inside your head!
